At their spring gala, “Sitting Pretty,” the Rye Arts Center has a lot to celebrate. They are recognizing their Famous Arts program, which has educated thousands of parent docents since its inception in 1986, and will honor two residents well known for their generosity and creativity — Laurie Platek and Peter Sinnott. Proceeds from the evening will support RAC’s arts education, outreach, and scholarship program. The gala will be held Saturday, May 3 at Shenorock Shore Club.
The honorees have served on the RAC’s board of directors, chaired numerous committees, and worked tirelessly to help make the arts and arts education accessible to all. Laurie is a longstanding supporter of the Head Start for Arts program at the RAC as well as other outreach initiatives. As an interior designer and owner of Home Works in Port Chester, Peter recognizes the importance of bringing the beauty of the arts to the forefront of community. Both Peter and Laurie were instrumental in bringing public art to downtown Rye in June 2012 with the brightly colored resin figures from Bob Clyatt’s smash exhibition, “Beyond Rodin.”
Suzanna and Andrew Keith and Julia and Richard Burke are co-chairing the gala with underwriting support from Knoll, Julia B. Fee/Sotheby’s International, and The Shade Store.
Tickets are $175, $250 or $500. To purchase tickets or a Journal ad, contact Bridget Murphy at ridgetmurphy@ryeartscenter.org or call 967-0700.
