Three RPD Officers Take Part in Dramatic Rescue off Playland Pier

The Rye Police Department would like to recognize and commend the efforts of Officers Stefano Silvestri, Marc Spergel, and Will Draper for their rapid response and quick thinking in rescuing a woman who had jumped from the Playland Pier into Long Island Sound on the evening of December 22, 2022.

The three officers were on routine patrol in the late afternoon when they received a radio call of a woman threatening suicide at the Playland Pier. As the officers approached, the 30-year-old Harrison resident jumped from the pier railing. Immediately upon impact, she began treading water, but the current began pulling her toward the rocks. Officer Silvestri entered the water, secured her, and brought her back to the shore. Officers then escorted her to an ambulance already on scene.

Rye Brook Port Chester Rye EMS transported the female to the Westchester County Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.
