Donald Trump, just-inaugurated for his second term as president, did not carry the city of Rye — but as he did across New York state and Westchester County, he increased his vote total here compared to 2020.
Vote totals obtained by The Record from the county Board of Elections show that Kamala Harris carried Rye 5,719 to 3,071, or 64.5 to 34.6 percent.
In 2020, Trump drew only 2,698 Rye votes, or 29 percent, compared to Joe Biden’s 6,136 votes, or 67 percent. Harris trailed the Biden vote total here by 417 votes.
In one election district (14, the Dublin area), Trump drew 41.8 percent. Harris polled strongest in Election District 6 (between Oakland Beach Avenue and Playland Parkway, known as historically as Rye Gate, where Trump received just 21 percent).
The trend in Rye mirrored that of the state and county, a Democratic stronghold. Statewide, Trump received 3.6 million votes, some 327,000 more than in 2020. Harris, although she beat Trump by more than a million votes statewide, received more than a million votes fewer than Biden had in 2020.
Countywide, Trump increased his vote total by 23,000 votes, while Harris fell 25,000 short of the Biden total, nearly a 50,000-vote swing. Neither Rye nor Westchester came close to swinging toward Trump, like the Long Island counties of Nassau and Suffolk, both of which Trump carried. Statewide, Harris carried only 15 of the state’s 62 counties.
Trump’s increased New York margins, including those in Rye, helped contribute to his popular vote victory nationwide.
