Post-Prandial Prancers
Despite brisk temperatures, droves of runners of all ages, shapes, and sizes took to the streets on the Saturday morning after Thanksgiving to take part in Rye Recreation’s 43rd annual Turkey Run. They ran alone or in pairs, and often as families. When all the races were done, many stayed after to savor the moment.
A noteworthy result in the 5–mile race is the fact that while the winner, 21–year-old Leonard Pietrafesa, ran an impressive 5:39 mile, in second and third place were Conor O’Driscoll, age 58, running an average 6:15 minute/mile, and David Marks, 51, an average 6:17.
The fastest 5–mile female was the lovely Jordan Delane, who tore into the finish with an average 6:46 minute/mile pace.
The 5K winners were 15–year–old Christian Ellis, with an impressive 5:57 m/m; and, first among the females was Sarah Furber, who seemed to barely break a sweat as she finished in 7:09 m/m.
The pace was somewhat slower in the Paws-a-Thon, although every dog had his or her day.
