The Rye Police Department reported two separate stolen vehicles in Rye on Friday.

In the first incident, Rye police received a tip from police in New Jersey about a recovered stolen Audi Q5 registered to a homeowner on Drake Smith Lane in Rye. When police responded to the residence in Rye around 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 2, officers noticed the house had been burglarized, at which point the perpetrator had apparently stolen the Audi.

Cops reported the male suspect was arrested in New Jersey, while Rye police have signed arrest warrant paperwork to have him transported to Rye. The Rye Police Department said officials will release more details about the investigation and the suspect, who remains unidentified, after he’s released to Rye police custody.

Later the same morning, at around 8 a.m., Westchester County police alerted Rye PD about a stolen Mazda CX-5 traveling southbound on Boston Post Road at the intersection of Peck Avenue.

Police tracked the vehicle to the CVS at 1121 Boston Post Road, where they found and arrested 21-year-old Jaynice Almonte, of Middletown, for unauthorized use of a rental vehicle.

Almonte is scheduled to appear in Rye City Court on Jan. 13.
