Rye High basketball captain Max Twyman led the Garnets to a 3-1 start on their season, earning Twyman Lions Club Athlete of the Month honors in December.
Twyman has played varsity basketball for four years, and started for three seasons.
Twyman has been the team’s leading scorer for three years and this is his second year serving as team captain. He has been averaging 18 points per game this season and leads the team in rebounds, averaging eight per game.
Last month, Twyman was named tournament Most Valuable Player after the annual Cliff Clinton Classic hosted by Rye. In the championship win over Pleasantville, he scored 23 of RHS’ 44 points.
He was named All League, All Conference, and All Section last basketball season. Twyman also is a starter and leading scorer for The Minutemen AAU Club.
Coach John Aguilar called Twyman “a leader on and off the court,’’ adding that the senior captain has a knack for sparking all of his teammates to perform at their utmost potential.
Twyman is a B-average student who hopes to play college basketball. He hasn’t made any final decisions on where he will attend. He volunteered in a program called “The First Tee,’’ collecting golf clubs for needy children to learn the game of golf. And he has caddied the last few summers at Westchester Country Club between his AAU basketball commitments.
