Ten games into their 16-game regular season, there’s one thing the Rye girls soccer team hasn’t done yet: They haven’t lost a game.

After a hard-fought 2-0 victory Tuesday at previously undefeated Pearl River – a game that started a bit later than anyone had hoped on a school night – Rye finds itself with a record of 7-0-3, and currently the No. 4 team in Class A, according to New York State Sportswriters’ rankings.

“We struggled early against Pearl River’s physical play in the opening half,” said Rye coach Rich Savage. “We made some good adjustments at halftime and found our composure in the second half, moving the ball quickly and controlling possession. We were fortunate to come out on top in this one. And our roster is almost at full strength now, which is a first for us this season.”

Sophomore Hannah Jachman converted a penalty kick early in the second half for the game’s first goal. Minutes later, freshman Harkin Brown cleaned up a shot off the crossbar from Rye senior Alessia MacKinnon with a header to make it 2-0 Rye.

Senior goalie Tessa Labovitz had her usual stellar game in net to secure the shutout, and Rye’s fourth straight win, after blanking Pelham 3-0 on Sept. 19 and Eastchester 4-0 on Saturday.

One of the toughest tests of the season looms, as Rye goes on the road to face Albertus Magnus, the state’s top-ranked Class AA squad, at 4 p.m. Saturday.
