Undefeated Rye Neck Gridsmen Lose in Sectionals
The Rye Neck Panthers football team lost the Section 1 Class C championship playoff Sunday after defeating Dobbs Ferry 25-7.
The Rye Neck Panthers football team lost the Section 1 Class C championship game on Sunday to Woodlands after defeating Dobbs Ferry, 25-7. With an impressive 6-0 regular season record and having not given up a single point all season, Rye Neck qualified for the No. 2 seed.
The Rye Neck football team had not given up a single point during the regular season and allowed just seven points in its playoff win over Dobbs Ferry. But in the Section 1 Class C championship game on Sunday, the Panthers were trouned by the Woodlands Falcons, 35-0.
During the regular season, Rye Neck outscored their opponents 229 to 0. Senior Captain Nick Cannon, who has been a varsity team member for four years, said, “This team is very cohesive and hardworking. We are looking forward to the playoffs and will give 100% effort.”
“The excitement in the community is incredible,” said a Rye Neck parent. “We have seen a true renaissance of the football program at Rye Neck thanks to the dedication of the coaches and players.”
