A driver crashed a car into a Rye home recently, causing major damage.
The Rye Fire Department responded to a call around 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 11 that someone had crashed their car through a resident’s house at 351 Park Ave.
Upon arrival, fire personnel found major damage to the rear corner of the residence near the garage, including to the gas line, according to city officials. The Fire Department ended up requesting backup from Con Edison, the Rye Building Department, and even the New Rochelle Fire Department Collapse Unit to ensure the homeowners could return safely to their house.
Fire department crews isolated the affected gas and electrical lines and installed temporary support to stabilize the house. All units had cleared the scene by around 11:45 a.m.
The Rye Police Department later confirmed that Dorna Lambey, 67, was the driver of the vehicle. A nanny who worked at the residence, she claimed the brakes on her car were defective, according to police.
Lambey, of the Bronx, reported no injuries after the crash.
