Wainwright House, the oldest holistic learning center in the country, is moving forward on another mind/body front. Beginning in late September, they will offer RYS (Registered Yoga School) 200 and 300 yoga teacher certification programs. The Academy will enrich Wainwright’s offerings, which include yoga, meditation, Qi Gong, and Aikido classes. Teacher training will be offered for day students, but as the former Milton Point estate serves as a retreat center and can sleep up to 30 guests, an immersion retreat class is planned. Special certifications in Child, Kundalini, Prenatal, Restorative, Teen, and Yin yoga will be offered in fall, winter, and spring sessions.
Executive Director Peggy Hill said, “Wainwright House sits on five beautifully landscaped acres overlooking Milton Harbor and the Marshland Conservancy. It is a stunning location to study anything, but especially yoga.” She added, “The Training Academy will give inspired students the chance to enrich their lives, expand their minds, and join in the community of the heart (the Kula).”
Robin Appel, a RYT 500 teacher specializing in Vinyasa-style and Child yoga, will teach the 200-hour retreat program. She comes with experience at Kripalu, Omega, Integral Yoga Institute, and Yoga Works. Appel currently owns and teaches at her own studios, Always-At-Aum, and is delighted to bring her trainings to Wainwright.
The 200-hour immersion retreat will be held two separate weeks — September 29 and January 12 — during which students will live on the lovely Wainwright grounds. Participants will have time allotted for relaxation and bonding, as well as specialized training and independent study.
A more traditional 200-hour yoga teacher training intensive will be taught by Birney Bernadette, a RYT 500 teacher and life coach who specializes in therapeutic, restorative, and alignment-based hatha yoga. Bernadette is known for her knowledge, authenticity, and precise articulation. Her sessions are infused with life-affirming philosophy that invites students to explore their true potential.
The first five-day session begins in October. Bernadette will open the training with an overnight introductory to welcome students into the journey of the teacher training intensive. This hatha yoga teacher-training program invites students to refine their own yoga practice while learning the art of alignment-based yoga instruction. Participants of this intensive series have the option for housing, but it is not required.
