On May 11, a group of students from Westfield Day School joined other high and middle school students in Central Park for Kids Walk for Kids.
On May 11, a group of students from Westfield Day School joined other high and middle school students in Central Park for Kids Walk for Kids. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the walkathon support research of hard-to-cure pediatric cancers at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Westfield student Kelly Bashan served as the inspiration for the event and was the major fundraiser. Westfield students raised nearly $4,000 for Kids Walk for Kids. The students held bake sales in both Rye and Greenwich and collected contributions from parents and residents of both towns. Art teacher Matt Fitzpatrick coordinated the activities.
Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children. Each day, 46 children will be diagnosed with cancer — that’s enough to fill a school bus.
