Last month, Sole Ryeders & Friends and the Rye High School Breast Cancer Awareness Club hosted a special event, “Strand Together,” at the Beauty Bar in Port Chester. Girls and mothers donated their locks to make Hip Hats with Hair, a comfortable and more authentic alternative to traditional wigs for women with cancer. With the donated hair, nine Hip Hats with Hair were produced in Tampa, by Christine Heinen. The finished products arrived last week.
Sandy Samberg, co-founder of Sole Ryeders, noted that the organization just loaned the first wig from the Strand Together event to a 15-year-old girl. “I’m just glad we were able to put a smile on her face.” She added, “ We hope to make Strand Together an annual event.”
