Last October, the Friends of Read hosted their first Fall Festival at the sanctuary tucked behind Playland. Last weekend, they held their second, and scored another touchdown, notwithstanding the fact that a lot of spectators were on the edge of their seats at the Rye-Harrison football game.

Families picked out just the right pumpkin, watched an array of predatory birds in action, rocked to music, had their faces painted, waited patiently for a special balloon character, dined on candied apples, learned camping tips from L.L. Bean, and happily sat or played along the shore.
