Last season, Rye Country Day’s girls squash team lost a heartbreaking match for the Division 2 National Championship title. Despite losing five seniors to graduation, Coach Marie Vlcek says her plan is to win Nationals this year. In her third season, Vlcek welcomes a new assistant coach, squash pro Tommy Wolfe.
The Wildcats defeated Green Farms, 8-0, last month and beat four teams, including Holy Child, to win the Chapin Invitational Tournament on December 1. Last week, they defeated St. Lukes, 5-2, and Millbrook, 8-0. They were set to compete in their first home match, post-deadline, against Greenwich Academy.
The team includes eighth grader Catherine Kimmel, freshman Madeline Pierpont; sophomores Caroline Kimmel, Mariana Lee, Gabriela Johnson, and Michelle Haut; juniors Gabi Salomon, Sydney Ginsberg, and Samantha Cooper; and senior co-captains Liz Judd and Clare McClintock.
