Winter Wonderland in Rye’s Forecast
The Rye Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring Winter Wonderland, a fun-filled program designed to attract families to downtown Rye and to encourage everyone to shop and dine locally.
Beginning this week, children in grades K-5 can pick up snowflake kits at The Rye Arts Center for $10. The stores will display the decorated snowflakes in
their windows starting Saturday, January 30, the kickoff of Winter Wonderland.
Residents of all ages are invited to participate in the Spot the Snowflake Scavenger Hunt that day (Spoiler alert: snowflake cookies from The Rye Country Store will be given as prizes to participants).
To “spread the warmth”, residents are asked to bring non-perishable items to Rye Fire Headquarters; those much-needed provisions will be donated to the Carver Center in Port Chester.
Rye’s small, independent stores and restaurants have been especially hard hit by the pandemic and need residents’ support. Where you shop makes a difference: when you make a $100 purchase at an independent local store, $48 stays in the community. When you shop on Amazon, none of your money goes back to Rye.
“We want to preserve the charm of downtown Rye and have a place which fosters a community where residents come together to meet, shop, and eat,” said Rye Chamber of Commerce Co-President Liz Woods. “Rye’s small-town feel, the unique shops, and wonderful restaurants are the driving factors behind people choosing to move to Rye. Let’s all shop local and support our shops and restaurants.”
