A Connecticut man has been charged in the wake of a fatal collision for barreling down the wrong way of the Hutchinson River Parkway Sunday and crashing into another driver.
Jose Espinal of Bridgeport, Connecticut, allegedly drove his Toyota Highlander southbound in the northbound lanes of the Hutch about a half mile south of King Street in Rye Brook just after 5 a.m. on Sept. 8, according to county police.
While driving the wrong way, he crashed head-on with a Toyota Camry heading north killing its driver — 62-year-old Greenwich resident William Saleeby — and causing the car to catch on fire.
Espinal was booked at Westchester County Police headquarters in Hawthorne on Sunday and arraigned Monday in Rye Town Court, before being remanded to the Westchester County Jail, police reported Monday.
The 48-year-old driver was charged with vehicular manslaughter in the second degree and driving while intoxicated.
Police said it wasn’t immediately clear how or where Espinal entered the parkway on the wrong side.
Espinal is next due in Rye Town Court on Sept. 13, according to the Westchester County District Attorney’s office.
