The Westchester Predators’ Lacrosse 2021 team won the elite Trilogy Tournament in Brick, N.J., the weekend of November 8. Of the 21 boys on the team, ten are from Rye: KJ Delane, Colin Mclane, Owen Kovacs, Ryan Kovacs, Thomas Giannetti, Liam Hurley, Caden Whaling, Aiden Zaicek, Liam Kennelly and John DeConsini.
Predators Lacrosse Club, based at SUNY Purchase, has a total of five teams, from 5th through 9th grade, who play in the summer and fall. Tryouts are in late August and about 250 boys from Westchester County and Connecticut try out. Roughly 90 boys from Rye try out each year, and of these, 40 make it. Rye High School varsity lacrosse players who have played with The Predators include: Chris Kovacs, Jamie Chabot, Alex Goldstein, Jake Heffernan, Seamus Carroll, Brendan Simandl, Matt McLaughlin, Henry Cho, Zach Samberg, Will Hynson, and Brendan Dugan.
Thomas Interlicchio, who runs the club, said that being on a Predator team enables athletes to play against high-level competition in their off-seasons, summer and fall. “The way recruiting has gone, summer/fall lacrosse has grown to be vital in obtaining exposure to college scouts.”
The fall season is now over for the younger boys, but the two oldest teams, 2018 and 2017, will compete at the Yale Bulldog Bash, a top recruiting tournament, on November 21.
