98 Degrees performs for a sold-out crowd at Under the Stars

Benefit raises significant funds for Pediatrics and Women’s Health at Greenwich Hospital

 

Greenwich, CT (May 28, 2019) – A sold-out crowd of over 500 enthusiastic supporters gathered at Riverside Yacht Club on Friday, May 17 for Greenwich Hospital’s Under the Stars benefit. Event organizers reported $760,000 in donations at the start of the evening and over $925,000 towards a $1 million goal later that night, with donations still being reconciled.

 

Co-chairs Katie Fong Biglin, Andrea Sinkin Jaffe and Jennifer Turano spearheaded a planning committee of over 50 volunteers. “Our time as co-chairs has been one of the highlights of our time in Greenwich, and we feel fortunate to have met so many of you who care as deeply about the hospital as we do,” said Turano. “While each of us has our own personal reasons for being part of Under the Stars, the common thread is the tangible progress we see happening at Greenwich Hospital.”

 

Funds raised at Under the Stars support technologically advanced, precise, subspecialty care in Pediatrics and Women’s Health. Greenwich Hospital’s award-winning medical and emergency services, bolstered by its unique partnership with Yale New Haven Health, offer access to physician experts associated with a nationally recognized academic medical institution.

 

Guests perused an extensive silent auction of one-of-a-kind items during the cocktail hour. A sprawling tent on the clubhouse lawn was beautifully transformed by Sebass Events and Entertainment. Twinkling rattan globes hung from the tent’s ceiling and vibrant calla lily blooms in golden vases provided pops of color to evoke an organic, summertime vibe. Jeff Glor from CBS News served as Master of Ceremonies for the third year in a row. A highlight of the evening was the nostalgic performance by 90’s boy band, 98 Degrees, complete with one lucky auction winner’s opportunity to be sung to on stage by the group.

 

Greenwich Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer, Norman G. Roth, spoke about the importance of raising money for pediatrics and women’s health. “An interesting, yet not surprising, statistic – 70% of all healthcare decisions are made by women and moms. They make the healthcare decisions for their children, husbands, parents, and even have influence over their siblings, which is why it is so vital for us to be able to provide an extraordinary experience for women at every stage of their lives,” said Roth. “In order to fulfill this mission, we rely on the philanthropic support of our community, and all of you here tonight.”

 

The event honored Karen Santucci, MD, the Walker family of Shreve, Crump & Low, and the Warwick family, for their support and lasting contributions to Greenwich Hospital. Roth introduced Dr. Santucci as the driving force behind building pediatric emergency services and the pediatric hospitalist program at Greenwich Hospital. Of the Walkers, he noted their family run business has a legacy of caring and culture of giving back to the community with their philanthropic endeavors. Arthur Martinez, chairman of Greenwich Hospital’s Board of Trustees, commended Bruce and Margie Warwick for their decades-long commitment and transformative impact on the hospital’s future trajectory.

 

A rousing live auction was led by Australian-born Duncan Schieb. Items up for bidding included a luxurious trip to Mexico, a year of shoes from Richards, a reservation at the exclusive Rao’s in New York City, stunning radiant diamond and platinum flower motif drop earrings from Shreve, Crump & Low, and a runway spot at a fashion show sponsored by Serendipity Magazine. The auction concluded with a successful appeal that garnered further support for the hospital. The night came to a close as guests flooded the dance floor to music by local DJ and former event co-chair, April Larken.
