A Few Good Women Helping the Lives of Seniors

The Osborn recently hosted a gala luncheon to recognize the accomplishments of three area women who have made a difference in the field of caring for seniors in our communities. The event also commemorated the 20th anniversary of Osborn Home Care.

Osborn President and CEO, Matthew G. Anderson presented the Miriam A. Osborn Foundress awards to Mary K. Spengler, MS, Chief Executive Officer of Hospice of Westchester; Kathy Carley-Spanier, MS, RN, Director of Community Health at Greenwich Hospital; and Janet Malang, RN, BSN, MA, retired Vice President of Sterling Park, the Independent Living community at The Osborn.

“We are proud to recognize three extraordinary women whose work demonstrates the values embodied by our founder,” said Anderson. “It was Miriam Osborn’s vision to provide a place where elders could enjoy gracious retirement living. Her compassion, generosity, philanthropic spirit, and dedication to serving the needs of the aged made it possible.” The Osborn now provides a continuum of residential and health care to men and women on its 56-acre campus.

The 160 guests in attendance enjoyed a talk by noted author Bob Spitz, who shared his experiences traveling with Julia Child in the bestselling book, “Dearie: The Remarkable Life of Julia Child”. The menu, prepared by The Osborn’s Culinary Institute of Arts-trained Executive Chef, paid homage to Child’s ground-breaking work in making French cuisine accessible to the American palate.
