Executive Director Gregg Howells, third from left, with honorees Sara Goddard, Sue Kelly, and Doug Donohue
Spirit moves everything at the Rye YMCA, and it was on full display at their “Better Together” benefit June 3. The community came out — and late, as the celebration began at 8 that night — to honor Gold Spirit awardees Sue Kelly and Doug Donohue and Community Service awardee Sara Goddard, and to salute Gregg Howells, who has been at the helm of the Rye Y for 26 years and is retiring this month.
Both Kelly and Donahue wore many hats — and never turned down a committee assignment! — when they served on the Rye Y board. Goddard is an environmental activist and educator who continues to move our area in a smart and sustainable direction.
The event raises funds for the Y Cares Financial Assistance Program, ensuring that the facility (now facilities, with the opening of The Studios at the Rye Y on Boston Post Road) is open to all.
