A Whole Lot of Love

On a hot and steamy Sunday morning, July 1, Rye women entrepreneurs set up a table at the farmers market to showcase Love Rye, a new group of female small businesses owners. Their aim is not only to support one other, but also keep Rye commerce vibrant.

The Love Rye Facebook group, which is accessible to all, recently launched and now has some 200 members. It was inspired in part by Love Larchmont, a similar initiative, according to Lee Sandford, who offered Boot Camp on the Beach for many years and recently introduced a new fitness program, Thryve. Sandford, who is one of the core group of 20 women spearheading the group, said the intention was to create a larger umbrella group for all local businesses to be able to spread the word about who and what they are.

Love Rye enables local businesses and organizations to post news and events on a weekly basis. The women hope that Rye residents will embrace reminders on social media of what’s happening around town and support local merchants and restaurants.

At the Love Rye table, there were cards and information on a variety of businesses, and owners were on hand to speak with shoppers.

Kim Mulcahy, another core member and founder of Sew Happy, which offers instruction for youngsters and adults, provided information on her summer camps. Photographer Jo Bryan displayed a large photo of the Rye marina with its colorful kayaks and dramatic sunsets. Jeannie Hedge came armed with all-natural, safe sunscreen from Beautycounter, a welcome item given the blazing July sun. Other businesses represented at the market were Cynthia Hudson’s Style, Caitlin Verdier’s ParentAble, and Aviva Kamander’s Authentic Vida.
