Adult Softball Heading into Playoff Season
By Melanie Cane
Next week is the fifteenth and final week of regular season play for Rye Recreation’s 2018 Adult Softball leagues. Four weeks of playoffs follow. According to Senior Recreation Leader Kelly Happaney, more games have been rained out than ever before. Despite this, all 25 teams have made great efforts to make up games, even on Sundays, and have played doubleheaders when needed.
As always, the program is filled to capacity.
In the Women’s league, Poppy’s BallBusters are in first place with a perfect 11-0 record. Neri’s Bakery Hardrollers are in second (9-2), with Legal Eagles (8-3) right behind them.
Men’s Softball is divided into A, B, and C. Sam’s Bar and Grill leads the A League with a 12-3 record. The Wranglers, 11-2, are dominating the B League. The Hammerheads, 12-2, top the C League, followed by MnM and 2nd Chance, who are tied for second with 8-5 records.
The Men’s playoffs will begin at the end of July, the Women’s the first week in August.
Happaney is one of many “eager to see each team bring the same energy they brought to regular season play into the post season. I know they will and I can’t wait to see what happens next.”
