Let the Sparks Fly 

Head to the Rye library with your preschoolers ages 3 and up this and every Saturday this summer from 10-2 to play with STEM Sparks Maker Bins. These sensory-friendly boxes are filled with open-ended activities, materials to boost fine and gross motor skills, and games to enhance problem-solving abilities.

Slow Flow of Good Health

Tai Chi Thursdays at Wainwright House start July 6 at 1. Instructor John O’Connor will cover the essential principles of the Chinese martial art, including movements, body structure, and integration of mind and body to promote health and rehabilitation.

Wit and Wisdom of Women

Make your way to The Rye Arts Center for an engaging conversation between comedian and podcast host Kim Berns and Annabel Monaghan, best-selling author of “Nora Goes Off Script” and “Same Time Next Summer”, Thursday, July 6 at 5.  

These two smart and funny women will explore the realms of writing, wit, and the extraordinary journeys of women who conquer it all. Be prepared for an unforgettable night. Light beverages will be served.

The Original New Yorkers  

At a lecture at Jay Heritage Center on July 9 at 4, learn about those who inhabited New York before colonization. Public historian Heather Breugl will present an indigenous history of the land and discuss these Native Nations. A citizen of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin and first-line descendant Stockbridge Munsee, Breugl is an activist, an independent consultant who works with institutions for indigenous sovereignty, and a doctoral student.

It’s Electric

Learn all about energy conservation from Con Edison at the Rye library on July 22. Come by anytime between 10 and 4 for a Q and A. Con Edison Outreach is working with communities to provide valuable information, energy saving tips, scam awareness, and how to enroll in “My Account”.

Summer Book Pairings

Join the Rye library for its Pie and Pages event on July 26 from 6-7. Rye Free Reading Room librarians will pair books with pastries, so participants will enjoy a summer read and a tasty treat. Noble Pies will offer a pie making demonstration, a pie raffle, and samples of pies and books.

Cha Cha Cha

Dance the night away at Wainwright House’s Latin Jazz Night on July 29 from 5-8. Join instructor Elin Waterston for a salsa, mambo, and cha cha group lesson and then move to the live music of the Carlos Jimenez Mambo Quartet.

Family Time

Face the Music

Families can enjoy Music on the Green, courtesy of the Rye library, on July 15 from 4-5. The performance will include music for all ages and tastes.

Friday Night Fever

Rye Recreation is offering free Friday Fun Nights at its amphitheater from 6-8. On July 21, head to the park for a Game Night that includes speed trivia and more. On August 18, prepared to be captivated by comedian, magician, ventriloquist, and mentalist John Pizzi.

Children’s Corner

Crafting Through the Countries

Starting July 12, ages 3 through fifth graders can travel the world (with their parents or caretakers) at the Rye library on Wednesdays from 4-4:45. Kids will engage in a fun craft that highlights a different country. The program encourages creativity, global awareness, and the development of fine motor skills in a relaxed social setting.

Summer Camp for the Ages

There’s still room in Rye Historical Society’ssummer camp for ages 7-13 from 10-2:30. The first week, July 17- 21, has a “Parks and Recreation” theme. Participants will explore the history of Playland and Rye Town Park. Campers will also collaborate and build a model of their own amusement park, which will be displayed in the Council Room at the Square House. 

The second week, July 24-28, revolves around “That 70’s Show.” Participants will explore 70’s pop culture, including music, movies, TV, and current events.

A Shark’s Life

Celebrate sharks at Westchester Children’s Museum on July 22 and 23 from 9-5. Kids of all ages will have the opportunity to explore these majestic creatures through science, art, and math. 

Seaworthy activities will include shark teeth sorting, dissolving seashells, shark trackers, sinking boat challenge, mermaid’s purse sketching, and pin the fin on the shark.
