Travel Back in Time

The Rye Historical Society invites you to the Square House Museum on Saturday, where festive guided tours will be offered between 1 and 3. You’ll learn how the Haviland family, which once owned the tavern, celebrated the holiday season.  

Entry is free but donations will be gratefully accepted. The tours are geared for adults and children ages 10 and up.

Celebrating the Season

The Rye Free Reading Room invites all ages to a Winter Open House on Saturday from 2 to 4. Enjoy music, crafts, cookie decorating, and more in this warm, inviting, and wonderful historic landmark. 

Fabulous Fun for the Young

Count the blessings of the annual Children’s Holiday Party at Wainwright House. Cookie decorating with Chef Staci. Photos and a fireside chat with Santa. Sing-a-long with elves. Festive yoga with Lexy. Crafts and play with Miss Lisa. Bingo with prizes. Holiday books read aloud.

Don’t miss the festivities on Sunday from 12 to 3. No charge for members, $15 for non-members.

Ahoy, Moviegoers

The Rye YMCA invites families to an unusual winter afternoon — in the Pa Cope Pool, Sunday from 3 to 5. Everyone remembers drive-in theaters, but dive-in? Bring your own standard-size float and watch “The Grinch.” Dr. Seuss’ memorable grump doesn’t steal Christmas and he may even win a few hearts.

The fee is $5 per child, $15 for ages 18 and older. Proceeds from the event will go to the Y Cares Annual Campaign.

Have Yourself an Early Little New Year’s

Join the daytime celebration at the Westchester Children’s Museum on December 31 from 10 to 5. Enjoy music and movement, story time, and museum minis.

Vacation Camps and Clubs

Over the school holiday break, from Dec. 26 through Dec. 29, the Rye Y and Rye Rec are offering an abundance of programs to keep your children engaged and moving. 

At the Y, the kids can enjoy Basketball, Gymnastics, and Fun (a mix of sports, arts & crafts, nature, and STEM) clubs.

Rye Rec offers everything from MAD Science to Golf Enrichment to Volleyball and Bizzy Girls Entrepreneur programs. 

Wonders Never Cease

Accompany your not-yet-walking child on a multi-sensory adventure on Thursday mornings, from 9:15-10, at Wainwright House, starting Jan. 11. Miss Lisa will lead the 10-class program of captivating storytelling, stimulating visuals, harmonious sounds, and tailored movements all designed for developmental health.

The Joy of Cookbooks

If you love cooking and reading, enjoy them together at the Rye library’s Cooking the Books book club. At the club’s next meeting, Jan. 3 from 6 to 7, the inspired recipes of Rachel Ray are on the reading menu.

Pitch Perfect

If you love to sing and are ready to do it outside your shower, join the Fonrose Singers at Wainwright starting January 11. This is the second year of the program and new singers are always welcome. 

No auditions. All levels. Rehearsals are Thursday nights from 7-8:30. The $300 fee for 10 sessions includes rehearsal tracks and sheet music.

Ready to Rumba?

Learn all the right moves with instructor Elin Waterston at Wainwright’s next program, Jan. 20 from 7-8:30. The fee is $35 for members, $45 non-members.

The new Member Exhibit lining the walls of the Main Gallery at the Rye Arts Center shines a light on the remarkable artistic breadth of our community. The exhibit runs through Jan. 5.
