ART COMING TO YOU LIVE THIS WEEKEND

Dozens of artists are coming to Rye to paint the town — its landmarks, parks, and water views — for The Rye Arts Center’s biennial plein-air paint-out. They will be setting up easels around town on September 13 and 14 (check www.ryeartscenter.org for locations) and be bringing their freshly painted canvases to the Center (51 Milton Road) in time for the live auction Saturday night.

Come meet and mingle with the artists at a reception on September 14 starting at 5 in the RAC Gallery, where many of their recent works will be on display and for sale. The main event — the live auction of their newly painted works — begins at 6:30. Bidding paddles are $20.

For those who can’t wait until the weekend, a number of silent auction works are already on display and available for purchase. And you can read all about the artists on The Rye Art Center Facebook page.

Since 2001, Painters on Location has not only celebrated our community through art but has also enabled the RAC to expand its outreach programs. Executive Director Meg Rodriguez is pleased to report that this year they are supporting a record 350 Head Start students in Port Chester.

If you’re a collector or interested in finding beautiful art to fill your home, this is your chance to own the works of sought-after artists at good prices. Among the returning artists are Elizabeth Derderian and Joseph Fama, both of whom are longtime and popular instructors at the Center, Ismael Checo, Katharine Dufault, Nestor Madalengoitia, Patti Mollica, Holly Rom, and P.L. Wilkins. The Gundersons, Janet and Keith, will also be back, as will another talented pair, Andrew Lattimore and Donna Prizzi.

“This is one of the strongest rosters of artists we’ve showcased,” said Rodriguez, “and the works are a wonderful mix of styles.”

For the first time, the RAC has sent close to 20 paintings by these artists to the Westchester Community College Center for the Arts at the County Center, spreading the excitement to other parts of the county.

Painters On Location is supported in part by the New York State Council on the Arts and by ArtsWestchester with funds from Westchester County government.
