Elizabeth Rose Ferris died peacefully on June 22, 2017 at the age of 93. She grew up and lived her entire life in Rye and Mamaroneck.
For many years, Betty, as she was called, was a bookkeeper at Charles Librett & Co in New Rochelle. After earning GRI designation, she had a career in real estate, working for Ann Pastor and at Weichert Realty in Rye.
In 1957, she and Leander (Lee) Ferris Jr. were married at Resurrection Church.
She was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels. Betty Ferris enjoyed boating with her husband on Long Island Sound, and time spent with family, friends, and her dogs. She was well loved, not just by her family, but also by many children who lived at Rye Colony in the 1950s and ‘60s who came by and knocked on her door for a lollypop.
Mrs. Ferris was predeceased by her husband Lee, and by her three brothers: Jack, Michael, and Daniel Rose. She is survived by her sister Mary Lou Jurs, and two nieces, Patricia and Deborah Jurs.
The family received friends on June 26 at Graham Funeral Home in Rye. A graveside service immediately followed at Greenwood Union Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made in her name to The Alzheimer’s Association of Westchester, 2900 Westchester Ave., #306, Purchase, NY 10577.
