When March arrives, the members of Daisy Troop 2198 spring into action to earn their ‘Respect Authority’ petal. The Osborn moms who lead the troop, Susan Gardner and Andrea Tait, thought a visit to the Rye Police Department would be just the right thing for the 12 kindergarteners.
The leaders reached out to Lieutenant Al Hein, who was “extremely accommodating” and offered to schedule the tour around the troop’s regular meeting time.
When the Troop arrived at the station, the afternoon of March 12, they were met by Police Officers Robert Jones and Stefano Silvestri. The kindergarteners got the inside scoop on the holding cells, the Commissioner’s office, and the interview room. They also went next door to the City Court.
Following the tour, Officer Jones gave a short talk on the importance of respecting authority and answered the girls’ many questions.
The highlight of the visit? “Sitting in a police car and activating the siren!” concurred the enthusiastic group.
