Justin Darin Porter of Rye, N.Y., passed away on January 06, 2024, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.

Born on August 22, 1966, in Phoenix, Arizona, Darin, as he was known, brought joy into the world from the very beginning.

When Darin, a first-rate football player from a young age, was entering his high school freshman year, the family decided to relocate from Chicago to the New York Metropolitan area. “The critical factor,” explained his mother Donna, “was to find a nice suburban town with a good football team. By the luck of the draw, Rye beat out Harrison.” Darin was a linebacker on the Rye High School team.

In 1989, he graduated from Lehigh University, where he majored in International Business/International Relations, minored in Economics, and was a linebacker on the Mountain Hawks, who play in Division 1. At Lehigh, he was also a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity where he shared a room with fellow Rye resident, Dirk Friedkin, and Smokey, a dog Darin had rescued and nursed back to health after it was hit by a car. Smokey became the fraternity mascot.

In addition to football, he enjoyed golf, lacrosse, skiing, tennis, and poker.

After college, Mr. Porter went on to an impressive career in the financial services industry. He was a senior vice president/managing director, as well as financial advisor and business developer, for international companies including Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, MF Global, Inc., Reuters Insight, ThinkEquity Partners, and Schwab SoundView Capital Markets/SoundView Technology Group.

He and his wife raised a large family in Rye. Mr. Porter was a father who led by example, teaching his children the values of integrity, generosity, and resilience.

In addition to his parents, Donna Toth and Bruce Porter, he is survived by his stepparents, Zsolt Toth and Margaret Porter; and his children: Channing (Jacob) Johnson, Grace Porter, Audrey Porter, and Justin Porter. He was predeceased by his daughter, Evelyn.

Darin Porter was a beacon of light in this world, said his family, “and his legacy will continue to shine through our lives and the many people he inspired along his journey.”

A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
