Granted, They Are a Great Group

Granted, They Are a Great Group

At this year’s Grant Award Luncheon last month, the Rye Presbyterian Church Women’s Association presented checks for $63,000 to 21 appreciative local organizations. That record-breaking amount all came from sales of donated furniture, clothing, accessories, toys and games, household furnishings, and collectibles at the RPC Thrift Shop. Staffed by volunteers, the shop is open every Thursday from September through June.

Among this year’s charities, grants were given to Carver Center, Children’s Center, Inc., 5 Steps to Five, Furniture Sharehouse, Heartsong, Lifting Up Westchester, Rise Against Hunger, and the Youth Shelter Program of Westchester.

Suzanne Davies, who manages the Thrift Shop, shared how much fun the volunteers have sorting, pricing, and arranging the items that are dropped off in the Church basement.

The Joan Kellogg Award was given to Jessica Gay and Kathryn Stack for tireless Thrift Shop service. Kathryn has been the shop opener for over a decade; Jessica has worked there even longer and is known as a “Tiffany Room” titan.

The Luncheon under the Church Arbor gave volunteers a chance to come together, kick back, and take pride in helping many nonprofit organizations improve lives within Westchester.
