Gregory Jon Boester, 55, of Rye, N.Y., passed away on December 29, 2023, due to complications from a series of intestinal surgeries. He was a beloved husband, devoted father of three sons, and an admired leader during his thirty-year career in finance.

Born in Los Angeles, Calif., in 1968, he split his teenage years between Denver and Steamboat Springs, where he pursued his childhood love of ski jumping, earning a spot on the United States Ski Team. In 1994, he competed in the Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway and the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun, Sweden. He had an immense passion for ski jumping, which he described as akin to flying.

After joining the board of directors of U.S. Ski & Snowboard in 1996, he became vice chairman. He was named a trustee of the USSS Foundation in 2004 and named board president in 2013. His keen insights, strategic acumen, and tireless efforts were instrumental in guiding the organization through pivotal moments. Mr. Boester believed in the power of sport to transform lives and tirelessly advocated for initiatives aimed at creating opportunities for aspiring athletes. He remained a trustee and an active supporter of skiing and snowboarding throughout his life.

After graduating from St. Lawrence University and the Wharton School, he advanced to senior leadership roles in fixed income at JP Morgan Chase, Citadel, and Barclays, before becoming founder, CEO, and CIO of Praesagio Partners, LLC, an asset management and advisory firm.

In business, Mr. Boester was known as a visionary who possessed extraordinary problem-solving acumen. Always one to share his vast knowledge and experience, he was dedicated to helping young people advance in business and to creating teams at Praesagio focused on providing mortgage stability and home ownership for millions of first-time, lower-income, military, and rural families.

Always trying to make the world a little bit better, he and his wife, Marian Wright, founded Moxie’s Creative Intellect (scholarship) Fund at Columbia University. Additionally, he served on the board of EPIC-CURE, a food recovery nonprofit in St. Augustine, Fla.

For more than a decade, he coached Rye Youth Soccer. Mr. Boester was also an active supporter of the Stone Barns Institute, St. Lawrence University, Christ’s Church in Rye, the Wharton School, ALSA, the Wounded Warrior Project, the Greensboro Association and the United Church of Christ in Greensboro, Vt., two Vail Ski Team athletes, and Rye Country Day School.

To his family and friends, Greg Boester was an inspiring, generous, supportive, fun-loving individual. His sense of humor was legendary, based on a supremely quick wit, but also enhanced by his repertoire of “Dad jokes.” He was always up for pick-up soccer, paddle boarding, “just one more run” down the ski slope, a hike, a sail, or a one-on-one conversation with a dear friend.

He was devoted to his wife Marian, with whom he recently celebrated twenty-five years of marriage, as well as their sons, Cole, Wyatt, and Rhodes, whom he loved and supported with all his heart. He will also be dearly missed by his cherished parents, Cindy and Ralph Boester; his brother Eric (Allie) Boester; his brothers-in-law and their spouses: Robert (Amy) Wright, Richard (Anja) Wright, and Minturn (Gwen) Wright; and his nephews and nieces: Norie Wright, Tate Wright, Hunter Wright, Natasha Wright, Olivia Odom, Dylan Boester, Leo Boester, and Zane Boester. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ’s Church in Rye, on Thursday, February 8 at 11 a.m. Donations may be made to any of Greg Boester’s philanthropic interests.
