Mary Kate O’Keefe McCarthy graduated from Denison University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and International Studies. She received the Denison Alumni Award. McCarthy studied off-campus with the Danish Institute for Study Abroad in Denmark. She was active with Legal Aide, Relay for Life, the Sexual Harassment and Rape Education program, Crew Club, Denison Campus Governance Association Policy and Finance Committees, and was class co-governor. McCarthy is a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.

 

Hayley Chittenden graduated from Sacred Heart University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice.


Marielle Bianchi graduated from Gettysburg College with a Bachelor’s degree in Art History.


Gareth McLoughlin, Amy Punyon, and Remy Totten graduated from Fairfield University with Bachelor of Arts degrees.

 

Jennifer Walsh graduated from Fairfield University with a Master of Fine Arts degree.

 

Lorayne Elizabeth McCree graduated from Miami University of Ohio with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Casey-Jane Weinstein graduated from Miami U. with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

 

Matthew Rix graduated from Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Science degree.

 

Mark Nedell earned a certificate of advanced study from The College of Saint Rose.

 

Thomas J. Hayes graduated from Western New England University with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

 

Koko Black graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology.

Union College announced the following graduates: Elizabeth Pike received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology; Elizabeth Rosato received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology; and Isabel Zellweger received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Policy.

 

 

Sacred Heart Honorees:

At Convent of the Sacred Heart, Claudia Khoury graduated with high honors and was class valedictorian. She received the Four-Year Awards for Excellence in both History and Spanish and will attend Columbia University.


Caroline Eagan received the Four-Year, Three-Sport Award at Convent of the Sacred Heart and will attend the College of the Holy Cross.

 

Margaret Anne Bugniazet received Convent of the Sacred Heart’s Lucie White Award and will attend Elon University. Lindsay O’Callaghan also received the Lucie White Award. She will attend the College of the Holy Cross.

Honorable Mention:


Three Rye High School students were awarded the 2012 Saint Michael’s College Book Award for Academic Achievement with a Social Conscience: Carissa Fernandez, Nina Koester, and Thomas White.

 

Winners were presented with the book “First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers” by Loung Ung, a 1993 Saint Michael’s College graduate who has become a widely acclaimed author. Ung gives a powerful autobiographical account, from a child’s perspective, of surviving captivity during the genocidal Pol Pot regime in Cambodia. She reveals an indomitable spirit in the face of profound suffering, including the loss of both her parents and two of her siblings.
