Flyhalf Michael Davitt
RUGBY RENOWN
When the Men’s All-American Collegiate Rugby teams were announced this week, two Rye High School Rugby alums were on the list for Division 1-AA Colleges. Congratulations to Michael Davitt, SUNY Binghamton, RHS class of 2018, and Grant Howard, University of South Carolina, RHS class of 2020.
Jim O’Hara, who coached both young men when they were part of the remarkable Rye Rugby program, said, “I am lucky to have coached both Michael and Grant, who were both captains of their team, and, beyond their playing ability, are two of the best leaders our program has seen.
“Michael just finished an incredible career at Binghamton University, where he became the leading scorer in the history of the program.
“Grant is a junior at U. South Carolina and making a name for himself nationally. I’m especially happy for Grant because he missed out on his senior season at Rye due to the pandemic.
Coach O’Hara added, “Both young men are great role models for our current players.”
The community can follow Rye Rugby this spring, starting March 4 down in Nashville against the Tennessee State champs, on IG and FB: @ryerugbyboostera (Rye Rugby Booster Association). In preseason rankings, the Garnets are currently 32nd in the country.
