life & style – Forever in Blue Jeans

Yves Saint Laurent famously said, “I wish I had invented blue jeans. They have expression, modesty, simplicity, and sex appeal — all I hope for in clothes.” Denim is timeless. It’s easy to style with any closet essential and even easier to wear.

Let’s face it, we all have jeans, but are forever in pursuit of the right ones. Once upon a time, shopping for jeans meant looking for an iteration of the same shape (there used to be only one), but these days, denim is being dreamed up in so many shapes it’s enough to make you dizzy: boot cut, bell, skinny, barrel, wide leg, “mom”, high-waist, mid-rise, low-rise — and some are in and some on their way out, and that can turn on a dime. While jeans never go out of style, their silhouettes do.

You know all that talk about the end of skinny jeans? Well, it’s just talk; they’re not going anywhere and are back this fall and showing up with details like fabric panels, slits, and more. If you haven’t thrown yours out, pull them out of hiding. They’re great for this season’s boots.

Dress them up, or dress them down, the beauty of jeans is you is you can wear them with anything. That’s why it’s so important to invest in a good pair.

With a new school year about to begin, it’s a good time to look at what’s happening in the denim department to stay on top of trends and find the ones that sing to us.

Denim-on-Denim

The Canadian Tuxedo (head-to-toe denim) is making its mark this fall. The options are endless, and the ensembles are no-brainers — denim jackets, jean shirts, and pants practically coordinate themselves. If you’re not feeling that adventurous, opt for a denim jumpsuit to embrace the trend. Think of adding a fun jean jacket or a shirt jacket with your favorite jeans or a denim skirt with an updated hemline.

Very Wide Leg

The wide-leg trend is not only getting wider, but getting more interesting, too. On super-trend right now are ones with unfinished hems, and they can be styled with anything in your wardrobe.

Deconstructed Denim

For those who are looking for a less classic take on the staple, patchwork pieces and mixed wash styles are one way to change things up, especially with many brands recycling fabric from old pairs or offcuts fashioned into new creations.

Cargo Jeans

Big and baggy, this oversized silhouette is straight out of the Y2K era and has become so popular it’s infiltrating the denim category, too. As bold as these bottoms look, their ultra-loose fit also means they’re breezy.

The New Denim Skirt

The denim midi/maxi is a hot item this fall. Expect to see sweeping hemlines that elongate the body.

Cropped Flares

With the rise of athletic sneakers and cowboy boots, crops are a great way to spotlight the footwear trend. This silhouette elongates the leg and is super wearable from day to night.

High Rise Flare

If you ask me, this 70’s-inspired jean is a forever staple.
