Linnea Aberg

Linnea Dagmar Aberg passed away on January 4, 2018 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut. She was a resident of Covenant Village in Cromwell, Connecticut. She was 95.

She was born on December 19, 1922 near Göteborg, Sweden, in the parish of Finnerödja, an area renowned for the cultivation of world-class strawberries. She was the daughter of Anna (Eriksson) and Anders Persson.

After completing her education, which included business school, she took a bookkeeping position in Stockholm. In 1947 she immigrated to the United States, where she met her future husband, Helmer Aberg, who had emigrated from Sweden a few years earlier. They were married in 1948.

The Abergs owned a landscaping business, Aberg’s Nursery, which thrived in Rye, for more than 40 years. They built a house on the six-acre Old Post Road property, where they raised their two sons. Mrs. Aberg served as both bookkeeper and salesperson, augmenting her gardening knowledge by taking landscaping classes at the New York Botanical Garden.

The couple were active members of the VASA Order of New York, a Swedish-American fraternal organization, where they enjoyed an active social life with the greater Swedish community, and of Rye Presbyterian Church.

In 2001, after half a century in Rye, the Abergs moved to a retirement community in Cromwell. Mr. Aberg died in 2013, at the age of 103.

Linnea Aberg is survived by her two sons, Lennart Aberg of Bristol, R.I., and Roland Aberg of Long Lake, Minn.; four grandchildren: Christy, Erika, Lorentz, and Yvonne; two great-grandchildren, Judah and Zoe; as well as numerous nephews and nieces, most of whom live in Sweden. She was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.

A celebration of her life will be conducted privately. To share memories or send condolences to the family, visit <www.doolittlefuneralservice.com>.
