Mary Elizabeth Eggers of Wilmington, N.C. passed away on March 18, 2020 after a brief stay at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center. She was 76.

Born in Nassau County, New York on April 12, 1943, she was the daughter of Nicholas and Margaret Landers. She grew up in Uniondale, N.Y.

She and her husband Bill Eggers moved to Rye, N.Y. to raise their children.

Mary Eggers enjoyed family, friends, the beach, golf, and travel, especially to Las Vegas. For many years, she was the office manager of Realty3 in Rye.

Her children recalled, “Our mom always supported us and volunteered for our schools, clubs, and sports teams. She was the kind of mom that rarely, if ever, missed an event or game. Whether that meant simply popping through the backyard bushes to the baseball diamonds directly behind the house on Preston Street or trekking up the Hudson for a college crew regatta, she was there. From the cold concrete stands of Nugent Stadium to the scorching aluminum benches shadowing the home team dugout at Disbrow, she could be found with her capable Canon capturing memories; great memories for which her children are grateful and will forever cherish.”

The Eggers retired to Wilmington and made it their home for the past 27 years.

Mrs. Eggers is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, William H. Eggers; her sons, William (Carla) of Rye, and Kurt (Sarah) of Palm Beach Gardens; her daughter, Kym Sorbel (Jeffrey) of Wilmington; her stepdaughter, Leslie Motel (Doug) of Stuart, Fla.; her brother, Edward Landers (Barbara) of Jupiter, Fla.; her sister, Carol Landzberg (Alan) of Katonah, N.Y.; and her grandchildren, Emily Eggers, Sally Eggers, William H. Eggers Jr., Sóley Eggers, Silka Eggers, Jacob Sorbel, Sean Motel (Jobell), and Vanessa Motel (Jenny). She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Landers.

A Celebration of Life service is planned for a later date.

Donations in Mary Eggers memory may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare or The American Lung Association.
