Meg Cameron Will Be That Proactive Leader

Meg Cameron Will Be That Proactive Leader

I support Meg Cameron for State Assembly. Meg has an admirable record of public service in the District, stretching over several decades.

When Meg announced her candidacy a few short months ago, I was intrigued by her education — which includes a master’s degree in Immunology and a BFA in Visual Arts. I was concerned about a declining emphasis on the sciences and a decline in arts education and arts programming in our nation’s schools. Those concerns seem pretty quaint now. A degree in immunology for a local politician may be vital given the dysfunction of our federal government’s response to the coronavirus outbreak.

What also sets Meg apart is a long record of advocating for those members of our community that are in jeopardy of being left behind. We need proactive leadership locally to combat many of same dispiriting developments that are occurring in our country writ large. “Essential workers” that are making poverty wages is one repercussion of the widening gap between rich and poor in America. The inequality in funding in public school districts is another.

We need representatives that base public policy on science and disciplined critical thinking, while also able to give a voice to those that are struggling to be heard. Meg Cameron can be that representative.
