Come to a Cabaret

The Black Box Theatre at the Performing Arts Center at Purchase College will be transformed into a nightclub for the arrival of Velvet Caravan at 7. The Savannah-based band offers a lively mix of Gypsy swing, honky-tonk, and Latin. This high-energy, acoustic-based quintet will make you want to get up and dance. And you’ll be able to as there is a dance floor, along with dinner and drinks.

NOVEMBER 3

Ones for the Archives

The Harrison Council for the Arts presents “Fusions and Transformations”, an exhibition of digital art by S.W. Paul Wyszkowski, at the Harrison Public Library November 1-30. Meet the artist at a reception November 3 from 2-4. The exhibit consists of archival prints which when framed under glass and displayed in average interior light should not appreciably change for at least a century.

The artist explained, “My lifetime adventure with inventing and discovering images has led me to experiment with nature-based composite images, both paintings and photographs, originally using mechanical processes and now exploring the infinite possibilities of digital image processing.”

Wyszkowski’s paintings, photographs, and digital prints have been the subject of eleven solo exhibitions in Washington, D.C. and Canada.

Olé to Traditional

Aida Cuevas, “The Queen of Ranchera”, brings her powerful voice to the PepsiCo Theatre at the Performing Arts Center at Purchase College at 3. She is beloved at home and abroad for her devotion to traditional Mexican music. The genre of Ranchera overflows with drama and patriotism.

This year, Cuevas won a Grammy for Best Regional Mexican Music Album. She also has a Latin Grammy under her belt.
