Parker Handily Defeats Challenger

Incumbent Democratic County Legislator Catherine Parker easily defeated her Republican challenger, Katie Manger, on Tuesday night. The unofficial returns show Parker received 6,924 votes to Manger’s 3,162.

Because of term limits, this will be Parker’s sixth and final two-year term as representative in District 7, but she said she would be open to continuing her work in public service.

“I love public service,” Parker said. “I may seek a role in public service or on the government side.”

“I’d like to compliment my opponent,” Parker said of Manger, who was running for elective office for the first time. “It’s not an easy thing to run for office. I believe both campaigns held their heads high and stuck to the issues.”

Manger, vice chairman of the Rye Republican Committee, said running was a great experience and she did better than she had expected. She hopes to increase involvement in the Rye Republican Committee and feels that her positive experience running should encourage others. “There was nothing really ugly at all,” she said.

Her plans now include expanding her pro bono work as a lawyer.

Parker said she will continue working hard in her final term to help municipalities mitigate flooding, maintain County infrastructure, and focus on good governance.

“People know what I have done for them,” she said. “I have always been very results-driven.”
