Pitch-Perfect Tyler Winderman

Pitch-Perfect Tyler Winderman

Tyler Winderman, an eighth grader on the Rye Red Modified Baseball team, threw a perfect game at Founders Field against visiting Rye Neck Middle School on May 17. The tall righty needed just 62 pitches over seven innings to accomplish the feat, striking out 13 of the 21 Panther batters he faced, in addition to not allowing a single baserunner. Winderman’s efficiency on the mound in the Garnets 6-0 victory brought the game to a close in a little over an hour.

In response to the outstanding outing of his top hurler, Coach Jeff Dempsey said, “We have had a lot of rainouts which has caused chaos with our schedule. Tyler was scheduled to pitch the day before against Harrison, but that game was cancelled due to poor field conditions. Before the Rye Neck game, I told Tyler I was going to cap him at 60 pitches, so that he would be available to pitch next week and wanted him to try to get us through five innings.

“Tyler knew his role was to throw a lot of strikes and let his defense help him, but his phenomenal control allowed him to accomplish much more. While there were many strikeouts, we played a strong defensive game in the field to support him,” added Coach Dempsey.

That defensive effort didn’t go unnoticed by Tyler who, after each inning, high-fived his teammates coming in from the field.

Over the course of the game, infielders Liam Draddy, Gavin Forte, Marc Gencarelli and Harley Goodner all made key plays, while Ben Prata made a nice grab on a laser hit to left field. The Garnets put up six runs in the effort thanks to key hits from Winderman, Goodner, Charlie O’Rourke, and Braden Baruchowit
