Responding to Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order 203 last June, the City of Rye Police Review Committee conducted an inquiry into RPD strategies, policies, practices, and procedures to identify methods of improvement. Responses from municipalities are due April 1.
Between October 1 and March 5, the Rye Committee held ten public Zoom meetings and two public listening sessions, all of which are available for viewing on the City’s website. They also provided a survey to every Rye household, which had a 3% participation rate.
This week, the Committee issued its Draft Recommendations for Public Comment, a list of 18 detailed recommendations covering the expansion of hiring practices to include more minority candidates, methods to improve community relations, updating and enhancing policies and procedures, increased training, and the creation of a Community Police Advisory Committee.
The document is available at ryeny.gov under “Community” and “Police Review Committee”.
