Putting COMPASS on the Map

Putting COMPASS on the Map

The compass was invented by the Chinese during the Han Dynasty and used for fortune-telling before becoming a navigation tool. COMPASS real estate, headquartered in New York City, is less than a decade old but is on its way to becoming something of a dynasty, too.

The firm celebrated its third anniversary in Westchester last month and, in a matter of weeks, announced the arrival of top agents, including Julie Bieber, April Saxe and her team (sisters May Burke and June Hatch), Chelsea Georgio, and Michael McCooey, as well as rising stars Jennifer Reddington and the team of Amie Pisano and Nicole Ball.

Senior Managing Director Jason Wilson provided some insight into the agency’s main attractions. “At COMPASS, it’s the agent’s name first on a listing. We consider them entrepreneurs. We invest in them, create support for them, and we have a lot of teams.” He added, “Between our Rye and Rye Brook offices we have 50 agents. We don’t hire everyone, and we let go the non-producers.”

In 2020, COMPASS was third in sales volume in the County, recording $1.3 billion in sales. According to Wilson, they were up 91 percent in sales, 90 percent in units.

While some of the growth was the result of the rush to the suburbs by city dwellers during the first wave of the pandemic — sales volume increased by 27 percent in Westchester — Wilson is confident that 2021 will be another extraordinary year.

“Twenty percent of the agents do 80 percent of the business, and many of those agents work for us.”
