All the Right Steps

Consider the fact that a baby’s brain creates millions of new synapses every minute, and that a brain is already 80 percent grown by age 3. That’s why the mission of 5 Steps to Five is critical. The local nonprofit serves parents of young children in the Port Chester immigrant community, helping them to stimulate and nurture their infants’ brain development.

On March 7, supporters filled the house at American Yacht Club for a luncheon celebrating 5 Steps’ important work. Program alumna Lynda de Gomez movingly emphasized the universal desire to help our children be the best they can be. The occasion ended on a fun note with an infor- mative (and at times hilarious) Bingo game.

High marks to Event Chairs Pam Nathan, Stephanie Spierings, and Ilaria St. Florian-Kruijtzer for conveying the message that these children have no time to waste, and the benefits of 5 Steps to Five’s efforts will last a lifetime.
