RPD Officers Nab Three Plate-Knappers

On October 10, at approximately 11 a.m., a City of Rye police officer was stopped by a party on McCullough Place near Purdy Avenue; the party stated a Honda CRV had struck his parked vehicle and was attempting to leave the scene. After stopping the CRV, the officer initiated an investigation that revealed the two license plates mounted on the vehicle had been reported stolen to Port Chester PD on September 27.

The driver of the vehicle, Kleber Xavier Gutama-Gonzalez, 27, of Port Chester, was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property. He was also issued a summons for driving a motor vehicle with no insurance, unlicensed operation, unregistered motor vehicle, and improper plates.

Gutama-Gonzalez is due back in Rye City Court on October 24, 2023.

Later the same day, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a Rye police officer stopped a 2013 Honda Civic on Purdy Avenue after the license plate reader on his patrol vehicle alerted that the Connecticut plates had been stolen. The driver, identified as Walter Nicolas Japon-Guarango, 35, of Port Chester, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of stolen property. The passenger in the vehicle was identified as Ligia Durasno-Escandon,  who had been arrested by Rye Police on September 15 for operating a 2010 Honda CRV with stolen license plates.

Japon-Guarango is due back in Rye City Court on October 24, 2023.
