Stocking Up to Ensure Food Security

A large and generous crowd came out for Meals on Main Street’s (MOMS) second annual Swing into Summer event held June 9 at Westchester Country Club. The organization, which operates in Port Chester, uses a community-based approach to address food insecurity.

Among the evening’s special guests were Fox5 news reporter Richard Giacovas, who served as emcee, and fellow Rye resident Andrew Keller and his band Skunkworks, which performed throughout the evening.

Terence Linehan, the outgoing board president, was the evening’s honoree.

Five Westchester high school students received The Light of Innovation award for coming up with new ways to end food insecurity. Four of the students, Charlie Hirschhorn, Alexa and Jordan Hoberman, and Ryan Frieman, organized The Friendly Fridge Network, a support system to fill strategically located refrigerators throughout the area. Rye Country Day senior Arthur Wang created two apps to help MOMS streamline its distribution efforts.

Cheers to all who helped MOMS surpass its $500,000 goal, enabling the organization to stock a Mobile Pantry truck for the next year.
