Strokes of Genius

Strokes of Genius

Anita Schwarz did not grow up on a golf course, but no sooner had she picked up the game than she became a course-blazer. And last month, she did what many club players have only dreamed of, but few have accomplished, even once — she scored her fifth hole-in-one!

Her husband John, a longtime Rye Record columnist, proudly gave us the story.

“In the 1970s, Anita and I were playing with my sister Marlene and her husband Dick Razetti at Seaview in New Jersey. Marlene went in after nine holes. She missed seeing Dick score a birdie. He was a little disappointed when we did not give him his due, but all eyes were on Anita, because she had a hole-in-one!

In the 1980s, Anita did it again on the 8th hole at Westchester Country Club. That was witnessed by our nephew, James Woodthorpe, who was over from England.

Then, in the 1990s, while playing in a large member-guest at The Stanwich Club in Greenwich, she did it again.

In 2007, when were down at our home in Bermuda, Anita scored her fourth hole-in-one at Belmont Hills.

Four holes-in-one four decades in a row!

That might have been all she stroked, because in the second decade of this century she didn’t repeat the feat. However, at Westchester Country Club last month she did it again.

How many golfers do you know who have had five holes-in-one? This last one was even more incredible because my beautiful and incredibly youthful wife recently joined me as a member of the octogenarian club.”
