Symone Ryans Sets New Holy Child Record

On April 27, in an away game against Long Island Lutheran, Holy Child senior lacrosse goalie Symone Ryans made her 511th save, surpassing the record of 507 set by Rachel Vallarelli in 2011.
Ryans, who was instrumental in leading the Gryphons to their 2017 NYSAIS Championship, has been the starting goalie since sophomore year. She knew she was close to breaking the record going into last weekend’s game, but she doesn’t keep track of her saves during a game.
“It was not until the game was over that I realized I had broken the record. I was so excited, especially because Rachel, who is the head coach at Greenwich High School, has been my coach in club lacrosse since middle school. She is my mentor.”
What Ryans loves about playing goalie is that, “I can visualize the whole field and know what’s going on at all times.”
In Gryphon Lacrosse Coach and Athletic Director Catherine Conway’s view, “Symone has been an outstanding member of the varsity lacrosse team all four years. She has been a strong presence since she stepped on campus.”
In addition to lacrosse, Ryans is the manager of the Varsity Soccer team, played the lead role in Holy Child’s musical the past two years, and is a member of the audition-only Madrigals Choir. This fall, she is excited to be heading to Bucknell.
