Outfoxing uncaring and mean-spirited adults is a common theme of Roald Dahl’s classic children’s stories. Take precocious Matilda, whose parents ignore her and then send her to a school where the headmistress delights in coming up with new punishments for students.
In last weekend’s Rye Middle School production of “Matilda JR”, the musical based on this crafty kid, the grown-ups got their comeuppance and girl power ruled.
Hats off to the 36 Rye Middle schoolers in the cast, the 29 Rye High and Middle school crewmembers. A round of applause for the good and always great grownups: Director Tom Snowden, Vocal Director Marshall Toppo, Accompanist Yunshim Kim, Choreographer Catherine McFarland, and Technical Director Jeff Loddo.
