It is rumored that the Rye Recreation Turkey Run harkens back to the days of the pilgrims. And while athletic wear may have emerged over the centuries, the competitive spirit of this family tradition is no doubt exactly the same.
This year, nearly 1,200 pairs of feet and about 40 sets of paws (for the Paws Walk introduced in this century) showed up for some calorie-burning fun and all were cheered on and high-fived at the finish by Tom the Turkey.
The weather last Saturday was in the 50s, and the top finishers were in their 20s. Luis Miguel Ferreira won the Men’s 5-Mile, and Jordan Delane the Women’s title. The 5K winners were Caroline Markowitz and John Stansel.
