Vito Calo

Vito Calo

Vito R. Calo, a former longtime employee of the City of Rye, died July 30, 2018, with his family by his side, at Stamford Hospital. He was 84.

Born on November 21, 1933 in Port Chester, N.Y., he was the son of Jack and Jennie Nardozza Calo. “Bubs”, as he was known, grew up in Rye and had been a resident of Stamford since 1960.

He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was a 3rd degree knight.

For over 39 years Mr. Calo worked for the City of Rye Department of Public Works. After retiring in 1998, he enjoyed tending to his beloved garden and closely following and cheering for the UConn Women’s Basketball team and the Mets. He was an active member of St. Maurice Church.

He loved to vacation in Cape Cod and listen to Frank Sinatra and Andrea Bocelli tunes. Above all else, his greatest pleasure was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He rarely missed any of their sporting events, dance recitals, or school activities.

He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Cleo (Fiordelisi) Calo, and their three sons, Richard and his wife Mary, Joseph, and John. Also surviving him are his five grandchildren: RJ, Tom, Elizabeth, Anthony, and Nicholas Calo; and his brother, Nicholas Calo of North Carolina. He was predeceased by his brother, Jack, and sister, Catherine Murray.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated August 4 at St. Maurice Church in Stamford.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Maurice Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford, CT 06906, or to the American Heart Association, 500 5th Avenue, Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451.
