What Tunnel? Paddlers Cross Sound to Help Clean It

The third annual Paddle Across the Sound will take place Sunday July 22. Nearly 100 paddleboarders and kayakers are expected to make a 7-nautical-mile roundtrip journey from Travers Island in Pelham to Sands Point, Long Island. Funds raised from the event will support Save the Sound’s efforts to improve the health of the Sound by exposing pollution sources, holding polluters accountable, and leading habitat restoration projects in the region.

Participants will launch at 6 a.m. from the New York Athletic Club at Travers Island. They will be accompanied by Coast Guard and volunteer safety boats. Upon completion of the paddle, there will be a beach party at NYAC with refreshments.

The paddle is hosted and sponsored by Nancy Vincent of SUP Westchester, with help from Noosa Yogurt, Athleta stores, and Fair Harbor Clothing company.
